Ann Arbor Rec & Ed Class Description {Adult Enrichment Music Class #1766.201 for Ages 13-Adult):

CLASS DESCRIPTION: Explore the empowering art of Taiko with us this Winter in a 2-hour introductory workshop with demonstrations and hands-on activities that introduce participants to Japanese Taiko drumming. Experience how this art form, rooted in Japanese music traditions, activates your imagination, uplifts our spirits, and builds community through collective play. We will share in the joyous energy and generous spirit of Taiko as we practice moving in space, using our voices, playing with instruments, and exploring the rhythms and groove of Taiko music together. We provide the drums (taiko) for you to play on; and you can borrow, bring, or purchase your own pair of wooden drum sticks (bachi). Instructor: Eileen S. Ho from the Great Lakes Taiko Center (GLTC). Optional $10/bachi. 1 class. $49/workshop

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS: Eileen S. Ho (she/her) is a Taiko artist, educator, and organizer at the Great Lakes Taiko Center (GLTC) with co-director and life partner Larry An. Eileen and members of the GLTC Collective show up in their communities in SE Michigan and beyond to reimagine, share, and activate the cultural power of Taiko Arts, through artistic practices that are rooted in ancestral wisdom of Japanese Taiko drumming and through collective play that invites us all to express who we are and celebrate the world we want to live in together.
