- We encourage participants to wear a mask while indoors whenever possible (we have a free supply of kN95 masks) and to wear earplugs during group play for your hearing protection (also in our supplies).
- Please stay home if you’re not feeling well as taking care of yourself and everyone’s health is a priority over any GLTC activity (we may stream and/or record sessions to share with participants as needed).

Kaoly’s ELEVEN Taiko intensive

Join kaDON instructor Kaoly Asano for a Taiko Intensive experience on Wednesday 8/7/2024 (11am-7pm EDT) which will focus on Kaoly’s approach to groove and hitting technique and her piece ELEVEN.

Kaoly has developed her unique body and groove philosophy as the founder and lead drummer of GOCOO and its taiko school TAWOO Taiko Dojo. She has pioneered a free spirited approach that blends both tradition and innovation and appeals to a broad range of audiences. Her style of taiko is referred to as “tribal taiko” or “groove taiko” and builds its energy upon connections with those around us and our roots.

Kaoly will bring out your inner energy through your tanden and meridian, and through the taiko to create your own sound. She will teach her unique body and groove philosophy through her composition ELEVEN, a piece of prayer and hope born in the aftermath of the March 11th 2011 Tohoku Earthquake. ELEVEN was featured in the film “Finding Her Beat” as the closing piece of the HERbeat concert.

“When we play the taiko, we become a pathway connecting heaven and earth. The sound travels along that path. I would like to share this precious song of hope with all of you who have encountered taiko in this life.” - Kaoly Asano

About KAOLY ASANO

The first time Kaoly Asano saw taiko drumming, she felt a familiar sensation as if she was finally “home.” As the founder and lead drummer for GOCOO and its taiko school TAWOO Taiko Dojo, Kaoly has pioneered a free spirited approach that blends both tradition and innovation and appeals to a broad range of audiences. Her style of taiko is referred to as “tribal taiko” or “groove taiko” and builds its energy upon connections with those around us and our roots. With GOCOO, Kaoly has toured some of the biggest music festivals all over the world, such as the SZIGET Festival (Europe’s biggest music event), and has also been featured in the soundtracks of major motion pictures such as “The Matrix Reloaded.”

In 2019, Kaoly was the lead workshop instructor at the annual kaDON Retreat. The following year in February, she was a part of the star-studded cast of “HERbeat,” the first ever all-women taiko concert and production. She is featured in the award winning documentary film “Finding Her Beat” that followed the “HERbeat” collaboration and production. She is also featured in the pre-teen book “Music Mavens: 15 Women of Note in the Industry”. Kaoly believes that through taiko, one is able to move freely and fully express themselves and she continues to share this message everywhere she goes.
