Michigan Shishimai Kai (MSK) invites all GLTC members to join them this weekend on Sunday afternoon June 29th as they share a demonstration of Kotobuki Jishi, the music which accompanies the Shishimai "lion dance", along with workshop offerings with their sensei and GLTC guest artist Eien Hunter-Ishikawa.

SCHEDULE for MSK activities on Sunday 6/29 at Rudolf Steiner HS (Ann Arbor location):

12:15 PM – 1:00 PM:  LUNCH w/MSK & Eien (BYO)

All GLTC members are welcome to bring your own lunch and join MSK and Eien sensei in the Rudolf Steiner HS commons area for lunch break after their morning of group lessons.

1:15 PM – 2:45 PM:  Edo Bayashi Workshop w/Eien sensei

  • Where:  RSHS gym

  • Who:  All GLTC welcome, geared towards those with performing experience and/or study groups

  • What to bring:  GLTC will provide some taiko (smaller nagado and shime w/suwari dai) and atarigane (kane). Please bring your own bachi, and instruments if you like (Taiko, practice or real atarigane).

3:00 PM – 3:30 PM:  MSK Kotobuki Jishi Demo / Q&A

Our MSK ensemble presents a demonstration of the music they have been practicing in their ongoing study with Eien sensei, only their second presentation to our membership community since their group debut last September (see shared album link below). This is a great chance for us all to learn more about their Edo Kotobukijishi & Shishimai studies and to support their official kickoff of the MSK fundraiser to purchase an authentic performance mask, cape, and instruments from Japan!

3:30 PM – 4:30 PM:  Open Taiko Workshop w/Eien sensei

  • Where:  RSHS gym

  • Who:  All GLTC welcome, especially A2 Taiko Play and T3/BBK community group members

  • What to bring:  GLTC will provide taiko. Please bring your own bachi, and Taiko Share drum if you like.

5:00 PM – 6:30 PM:  Potluck supper and visiting with Eien Hunter-Ishikawa

All GLTC members are welcome to bring a potluck dish or drink to share in the Rudolf Steiner HS commons area to celebrate our time together with Eien during his summer visit and give thanks to our hosting group MI Shishimai Kai!

Please RSVP to <gltc@greatlakestaiko.org> so we know to expect you on Sunday, or just show up as you can – we'd love to have you come join in these special offerings either way! //Eileen at GLTC
