Japanese TAIKO Drumming Demo

2:30-3:00pm at the Children’s Fiesta

Raion Taiko members from the Great Lakes Taiko Center will conduct a Japanese Taiko drumming demo & workshop for kids of all ages and abilities. No musical experience is necessary to enjoy this unique and fun art form.

Back by popular demand is the Japanese drumming ensemble, Raion Taiko from the Great Lakes Taiko Center. Taiko is rooted in Japanese music traditions and continues to grow today as a global cultural arts movement that amplifies imagination, uplifts spirits, and builds community.  From the deep, thunderous sounds of the great Odaiko drum to the subtle beauty of the bamboo flute, festival-goers will share in the joy of experiencing Taiko together.

Raion Taiko will perform a mix of contemporary pieces composed and shared to the Great Lakes Taiko Center by artist Yamada Mizue in Kanazawa, Japan, songs from our own Midwest Taiko composers, and a traditional harvest festival song from the Kaga region in the Ishikawa prefecture of Japan:
