*Taiko Performance in MI Bon 2024 Festival on SUN 8/11 (1-5:30pm) at Cranbrook
Sensei/Teachers: Kyoko Johnson, Noriko Maidens, Rieko Muroi-Bowman, and Akiyo Fisher (Godaiko Drummers) with Olga Ehrlich, all GLTC Taiko Arts Collective members.
Class Description: Learn and play Taiko with our Tanoshii Taiko Tai (T3/fun drum team) community group exploring BBK (Bon daiko/drum, Bon odori/dance, and Kane/handheld percussion also called atarigane) festival music elements along with the melodious fue/bamboo flute. This Summer season, BBK instructors will review/teach "Imabetsu Arama" with taiko drumming and ‘wild horse’ dance, and GLTC member Olga Ehrlich will continue teaching “Mountain River Matsuri” which is a ‘festival’ piece with taiko and flute arranged by her original group Mountain River Taiko in Massachusetts. *Students will have the opportunity to perform class pieces at the MI Bon Festival event on SUN 8/11 (see #MIBON2024 event).
